About: 4-H is a positive youth development program (PYD) committed to building in youth the"5 Cs"-competence, confidence, character, caring and connected -young adults. PYD instills greater academic achievement, civic engagement, leadership, healthy living and decision making.
Butte County 4-H is a youth development organization which provides a wide variety of non-formal educational activities for youth ages 5 to 19. Each geographical area of Butte County has 4-H Clubs which offer projects and activities for youth to grow leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
Butte County 4-H provides positive youth development to over 500 youth with support from over 200 adult volunteers through nearly 20 4-H Clubs.
Whether our youth raise livestock, participate in leadership development projects, or work on a sewing project, the goals of 4-H remain the same…to help young people develop their full potential through fun and hands-on experiential learning!
"Shasta Club" in Butte County 4-H is the only club that currently offers an Equine program.

California High School Rodeo Association, District 1

About: CHSRA was founded in 1971, it is the State Chapter of the National High School Rodeo Association. Divided into 9 Districts, California has over 800 members. There are 2 divisions, a Jr. High and a High School. The Jr. High is grades 5th through 8th and High School is 9th through 12th.
The Jr. High Division has 13 events, Barrel Racing, Pole bending, Goat Tying for both boys and girls, Breakaway for both boys and girls, Ribbon Roping, Team Roping, Jr. Bull Riding, Chute Dogging, Saddle Bronc Steer Riding and Bareback Steer Riding.
The High School events are Barrel Racing, Pole bending, Goat Tying, Breakaway, Queen, Team Roping, Cutting and Reined Cow Horse for girls. Boys compete in Tie Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Cutting, Reined Cow Horse, Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding and Bareback Riding.
Throughout the state the nine districts have approximately 8 to 10 rodeo's a year and the top in each event, in each District move on to the state finals in both divisions. The Jr. High Division Top 5 has Finals in May and the High School top 6 has Finals in June. The top 4 in each event then move on to the National Finals Rodeos for both Divisions as well.
